As part of their 55th birthday celebrations, Guinevere Antiques will be hosting an exhibition of Mirella Ricciardi’s work curated by her daughter and Archive Director, Amina Ricciardi-Dempsey. This celebratory exhibition provides a unique opportunity to buy previously unseen works.

Mirella Ricciardi was born, in 1930’s Kenya, to an Italian father and a French mother. In the late 1950s, fuelled by an insatiable curiosity and an explorer’s visual thirst, she started to photograph a disappearing Africa. Traversing the continent, her images beautifully capture its people, wildlife and landscape. Taken instinctively, they evoke the final moments of East African Tribal life.

In 2006 Mirella’s daughter Amina was packing up her mother’s belongings in the cellar of the family home when she made an exciting discovery. Lying in an old Zanzibar chest was Mirella’s original archive, one of the great 20th century photographic records, which had been thought to be lost forever.

The collection spans more than 60 years, showing just how versatile and prolific Mirella has been as a photographer.

From fashion and film to reportage of conflict, Mirella has excelled. She was a photojournalist for Time Life magazine and went on expeditions into Equatorial Africa, Ancient Arabia and the Amazon.

Genesis are proud to support Mirella with her works produced as C-type and Giclee prints.
