Our ChromaLuxe® Fine Art printing service uses a process called ‘dye sublimation’ to produce images or artwork on slimline aluminium with either a high gloss or satin finish.

These 1.2mm thin metal prints have an intense depth and colour intensity comparable to traditional Cibachrome prints or photographs produced using Kodak Kodachrome or Fujifilm Velvia colour-reversal or transparency films. In addition, ChromaLuxe prints are also archival, waterproof, fire-resistant, chemical-resistant, abrasion-resistant and exclusive in London to Genesis Imaging.

What is ChromaLuxe® Fine Art printing?

ChromaLuxe printing uses a process called ‘dye sublimation’ to fuse images onto metal. The term ‘sublimation’ describes the transition of a substance (in this case, the special inks) directly from the solid to the gas phase without becoming a liquid first.

We use eight dye sublimation inks to produce your work consisting of a solid and heat-intensive dye. Your image or artwork is first printed as a Giclee print using these inks, on to transfer paper, then applied to a specially coated 1.2mm aluminium panel. Through a process of heat and pressure, the dye particles change into a gas, bond with the polymers in the aluminium, and then switch back into a solid state, fusing the image and aluminium.

Why Should I Choose ChromaLuxe® Fine Art printing?

With our ChromaLuxe printing service, you can achieve intensely sharp colour or black and white prints of your images or artwork with an intense depth and durability.

The ChromaLuxe printing process produces images on aluminium with an outstanding depth and intensity of colour – comparable to traditional Cibachrome prints or photographs produced using Kodak Kodachrome or Fujifilm Velvia colour-reversal or transparency films.

ChromaLuxe prints are archival, highly resilient and require no additional glass, acrylic, lamination or coating to protect them. The dye sublimation process renders images waterproof, abrasion-resistant, fire-resistant and chemical resistant – making artwork suitable for almost any interior or exterior environment. This unique process renders images and artwork even suitable for display underwater. For high-traffic areas or climatically challenging environments, this service offers unparalleled endurance and remarkable stability.

Our ChromaLuxe Fine Art Prints are available in sizes up to 70″ x 40″ and can be precision-cut to almost any shape that you desire.

We offer ChromaLuxe printing to either white or clear polymer-based aluminium panels. Our white-coated aluminium panels offer true-colour reproductions of your images or artwork without any colour distortion. For those looking to achieve a metallic finish, our clear polymer-based aluminium panels use a transparent coating that allows the reflective qualities of the aluminium panel to shine through the lighter areas of your image. For optimum flexibility, both options are available in either a high gloss or satin finish.

Because we don’t believe that photographic printing should be anything less than the highest quality, we only offer one level of service – our very best.

FAQ

Both services offer exceptional results on aluminium, there are however some distinct differences. The sublimation process used to produce ChromaLuxe Fine Art prints uses high degrees of heat with special dye sublimation inks to physically fuse images or artwork into the aluminium, providing a smooth and durable metal print in either a satin or high gloss finish. In contrast, with our Direct to Media printing, your image does not penetrate the surface of your chosen substrate.

We can also offer either a high gloss or satin finish with ChromaLuxe printing whereas Direct to Media printing is available in a satin finish only.

ChromaLuxe printing also offers more durable results on aluminium than using a Direct to Media process and is particularly suited for display in high-traffic areas or climatically challenging environments.

We do! Using our CNC Router we can precision cut your mounted prints or printed substrates to almost any shape your desire. The biggest advantage of CNC cutting in comparison to other profiling machines is in the level of accuracy achievable. CNC routers allow the cutting depth to be fully controlled – so accurately so that we can cut Perspex sheeting but leave the protective film intact. The precision of CNC routing means that little or no finishing is required after the material has been cut or engraved. See below for info on what a CNC router is.

A CNC machine is a precision profiling machine that uses three axes (X, Y and Z) to accurately cut, drill, and engrave. The “CNC’ of CNC Router stands for “computer numerical control’, it is a computer-controlled cutting machine capable of cutting various sheet materials, such as wood, composite materials, metals such as aluminium and steel, plastics and foams, amongst others.

Currently, we have honed our skills and expertise to offer printing in this way to slimline aluminium. However, our Direct to Media printing process offers the ability to print directly to almost any substrate imaginable – including wood, Perspex, glass, concrete, rubber and many, many more. Find out more about Direct to Media UV Printing.

ChromaLuxe printing uses a dye sublimation process to physically fuse your image on to aluminium, meaning that the mounting process is not required, saving significant time.

ChromaLuxe prints are also far more durable than prints mounted on aluminium and are extremely hard-wearing, abrasion resistant, fire resistant and waterproof.

The process also gives images a similar look to traditional Cibachrome prints with an intense depth that has to be seen to be believed.

Each completed piece is supplied with an Aluminium sub-frame – making it easy to hang and providing additional rigidity and support against warping. This sub-frame also provides a visible space between the mounted work and the wall, giving a 3-dimensional floating’ presence with a modern drop shadow beneath.

Our Keyline and Tray framing services also offer a popular glassless framing option and with our extensive range of exhibition quality mouldings, we’re able to create bespoke frames in a diverse range of finishes.
