Callum Beaney graduated from Nottingham Trent University’s BA Photography programme in 2017 where his project ‘The Space In Between’ was awarded the Genesis Imaging & Lakeside Arts Bursary Award: £1000 of production services towards an exhibition of work one year after graduation. ‘The Space Between’ at Lakeside Arts is Callum Beaney’s first solo show.
The Space In Between’ concerns the interconnectedness and transience of things, and the experience of time and space within them. Though at a distance still, as though held from time, the forest’s inhabitants experience perpetual, cycling change: growth through decay; summer through winter. Reflecting aspects of one another in these spaces, where the experience of time can appear paradoxically suspended, these phenomena define themselves in their coexistence, their continuity, these shifting moments revealing their shared aspects – and our place in relation to them.
Envisioning these moments and their interactions as the silence, the space that surrounds and envelopes them, they find their place in folded scrolls and their patterns of folding and spacing.
