From the 2014 Format Festival off-year programme.
The FORMAT International Photography Festival Portfolio Reviews, featuring Format Director Louise Clements.

We are delighted to once again be supporting The FORMAT International Photography Festival 2017 and a bursary of £500 of our professional photographic and fine art services to aid one photographer, chosen from the portfolio walk, which takes place after the internationally renowned FORMAT Portfolio Reviews on Saturday 25 March 2017.

In addition to this support we have partnered with Fujifilm to provide £1000 worth of framing and printing (on Fujifilm Crystal Archive paper) to one individual exhibited at the festival.

FORMAT17 – HABITAT: 24 MARCH – 23 APRIL 2017

The 2017 edition of FORMAT will explore the theme of HABITAT through varied narratives and imagery that document the worlds around us. HABITAT share the experiences and stories that coalesce as we negotiate our complex existence, including the flora, fauna, landscapes and the lives within. Work by more than 200 international artists and photographers will be on display, documenting the world around us. A showcase for emerging talent alongside established artists, FORMAT17 will encompass 30 exhibitions, a photo book market, portfolio reviews and a series of innovative events and performances.

Rapid changes in the environment, industry, technology, wars, migration and climate are accelerating at such unprecedented rates that the human impact on the Earth has pushed us into a new cultural geological epoch or era known as the Anthropocene. With tangible impacts of these changes being recorded in the atmosphere, lands, plants, oceans, humanity and wildlife, FORMAT are interested in the effect, solutions and conditions of this state that we are in, on micro and macro levels worldwide.

“I felt the idea of the Anthropocene would be timely. It’s a concept that’s important not just in art or photography, but more generally in terms of how we start to understand and come to terms with what is important in the world around us and our relation to it.’ Louise Clements, Artistic Director QUAD & FORMAT International Photography Festival

HABITAT will look broadly at landscape, environment, mobility, migrations, digital worlds, ideas of home and displacement, conflict and regeneration and all the spaces that we live in including work that considers our short or long term impact on the world locally and internationally.
