Some interesting things happened on the 20th January 1997 – the comet Hale-Bopp crossed Mars’ orbit, US President Clinton was inaugurated for his second term in office, Millionaire Steve Fossett landed in northern India after a record-setting bid to become the first person to circle the globe in a hot-air balloon… and Genesis Laboratory Limited opened its doors to the photographic industry.

With Genesis’ 18th birthday at the beginning of this week, we’ve been digging in the Genesis Imaging archives to find our very first press piece – written by Panorama in January 1997…

Genesis Laboratory Ltd – a partnership between Ken Sethi and Howard Lee – opened for business in 1997 at premises in Michael Road in Fulham. Starting out with a small team of four experienced E6 technicians and two printers, Genesis has grown from its roots as a conventional laboratory to offer the full range of in-house printing, mounting and framing services that we offer today.

The company’s business focus went entirely digital in 2011, reflecting the changing requirements of the photographic industry. With a new focus, came a new name – Genesis Digital Imaging’ – which remained until 2012 when Digital’ was removed to reflect the broad range of services that Genesis has grown to offer.

In this article Ken comments, “We see the key areas in providing the best possible customer service as being able to offer consistent quality and reliability combined with speed. We’re friendly and flexible and we’ve got a lot to offer.” 18 years later, we’re very proud to have kept some things exactly the same.
