Genesis is proud to continue its support for Nottingham Trent University’s final year Photography BA students with two portfolio bursaries of £500 credit.
We are delighted to announce that the recipients of this year’s bursaries are Eleni Georgiou for her project ‘Implicit Indications’, and Mackenzie Hall for his project ‘Night, God bless’.
Eleni Georgiou: ‘Implicit Indications’
Implicit Indications intends to prompt the audience to challenge the stereotypes enforced through semiology. Exposing unconscious thoughts that come from a patriarchal viewpoint and evoke the question of participation within binaries, biases and stereotypes. Leading to the recognition of projection inflicted via social codes with the implications and policing that come with them. The series conveys the unique and dynamic relationships that surround the photographer into her adult life and the identities and performances they withhold. Displaying the intimacy and acceptance for one another that has formed these relationships, despite the aftermath of many social conventions inflicted onto this generation.
Mackenzie Hall: ‘Night, God bless’
Night, God bless explores themes surrounding loss and grief, sharing quite a personal and sentimental body of work. While these topics are rooted in my experiences, the work speaks to universal emotions that can resonate with a wider audience. The work stems from the unfortunate passing of my Grandma, and not having the opportunity to say a real goodbye. The series of portraits depicts my Mum’s side of the family including my Grandad Frank, Mum, Auntie Ady and Uncle Martin in way of preserving a lasting memory and improving communication through meaningful dialogue with those closest to my Grandma.
