Entries are now open for the 2016 international Travel Photographer of the Year awards (TPOTY). Amateur, semi-pro and professional photographers of all ages are invited to enter TPOTY’s broad range of categories and themes to challenge their skill and creativity.

This year’s TPOTY competition features three portfolio categories, three One Shot’ single image categories, a Smart Shot’ category for images taken on a mobile phone or tablet, a New Talent’ award, Young TPOTY and an HD video category.

The TPOTY 2016 sponsors  (of which, Genesis are delighted to be one of) are providing a range of prizes for the awards and the winning photographers will see their work displayed at TPOTY exhibitions  – including one at the University of Greenwich in London’s Maritime Greenwich UNESCO World Heritage Site.

The overall winner – the Travel Photographer of the Year 2016 – will be chosen from all entrants who submit at least two portfolios. In addition to receiving the international exposure that comes with winning TPOTY. Entrants submitting two or more portfolios in any of these categories will also automatically be eligible for overall top prize and the title of Travel Photographer of the Year 2016. The winner of the Best Single Image award in each portfolio category receives a Giclée Fine Art exhibition print from Genesis Imaging.

TPOTY is always keen to encourage the next generation, and over the years has seen former young winners go on to enjoy successful photographic careers when they leave school or college. Young Travel Photographer of the Year 2016 has two age groups – 14 years and under and 15-18 years – and the overall young winner will be chosen from the highest-placed entrants in each group. This year’s theme is Places & Experiences, and the Young TPOTY winner will receive £500, Photo Iconic photography tuition and a Plastic Sandwich leather portfolio case. Eact age group winner will receive £250 plus Photo Iconic photography tuition.
