About The Syngenta Photography Award:

The Syngenta Photography Award aims to draw attention and stimulate dialogue around key global challenges. The award offers photographers an international platform for their work and also provides the opportunity to explore issues of global significance.

The third edition of the Syngenta Photography Award invited photographers to respond to the theme of Grow-Conserve’. As the world’s population continues to increase, so does the tension between our growing demand for food, energy and resources, and the protection of our planet. We are proud to have worked on the exhibition with our professional Exhibition Production services – including Lambda C-type Prints, Giclée Fine Art Prints and Bespoke Gallery Framing.

The exhibition brings together 92 images from 43 photographers, representing 22 countries; each depicting powerful responses to the theme. Among them will be photographs submitted by the six shortlisted photographers: Lucas Foglia (USA), Claudia Jaguaribe (Brazil), Yan Wang Preston (United Kingdom) (Professional Commission); Robin Friend (United Kingdom), Matt Hamon (USA) and Kenneth O’ Halloran (Ire-land) (Open Competition).

Winners of the 2016/17 Syngenta Photography Award were announced on March 8 at an awards ceremony at London’s prestigious Somerset House.

Grow-Conserve – The Winners:

Professional Commission:
1st Yan Wang Preston United Kingdom, China
2nd Lucas Foglia USA
3rd Claudia Jaguaribe Brazil

Open Competition:
1st Kenneth O’ Halloran Ireland
2nd Matt Hamon USA
3rd Robin Friend United Kingdom

The ceremony marks the opening of an exhibition highlighting some of the most thought-provoking responses to the theme.

The exhibition will be on show in the West Wing Galleries of the iconic Somerset House. Curated by Candlestar, it explores various issues linked to the overarching theme Grow-Conserve, including the challenge of food security as the global population continues to grow; conflict, climate change and sustainability. The exhibition questions whether or not it is realistically possible to do more with less in order to conserve what we have today for the next generation.
