It’s that time of the year again… Travel Photographer of the Year have announced the winning entries from their annual competition. A huge congratulations to all who won awards or were commended in this year’s awards – we had the pleasure of seeing the entries as TPOTY 2017 was judged here at Genesis Imaging, so we know how much of a hard time the judges had choosing who to award their prestigious awards to. As ever, we are delighted to support Travel Photographer of the Year as a sponsor and will be printing the exhibition which will tour in 2018.

Travel Photographer of the Year 2017 – Overall Winner:

Belgian born photojournalist, Alain Schroeder entered two portfolios in the ‘Tales of Adventure’ and ‘Celebration of Humanity’ categories. His entries exhibited tenderness in stories with an edge. In many countries death carries certain taboos but in others it is celebration of both ancestry and culture. Alain’s black and white portfolio from Toraja in Sulewesi, Indonesia, is sensitive, celebratory and atmospheric. His portfolio from Kushti in India ventures in the the world of wrestling. Shot beautifully in low light it is both powerful and tender.

Young Travel Photographer of the Year 2017:

The Young Travel Photographer of the Year 2017 is 12-year old Morgan Wolfers who is a nature photographer living in the Rocky Mountains of Colorado – and was just 11 years old when she took her Young TPOTY winning images. With the theme ‘My Camera, My Travels’, Morgan’s portfolio shows great observation, attention to detail and use of colour, especially for one so young. Her winning images are vibrant and engaging, giving a real sense of place and the essence of autumn and autumnal colour.
