Artist Tracy Satchwill’s series ‘The ‘Magna Carta Women’ project commemorates next year’s 800th year anniversary of the signing of the charter and will be touring England in 2015.
The 4-panel piece has been produce as individual perspex face mounts and focuses on 47 women and 3 men who have had an influence on British women and their long journey to achieve individual rights and freedoms. Her playful collage includes an array of people, such as: Mary Wollstonecraft, Emily Pankhurst, Catherine of Aragon, Janet Horne (the last woman in the British Isles to be executed for witchcraft), Barbara Castle and Laura Bates (founder of the Everyday Sexism Project). John Stuart Mill, George Lansbury and Laurence Housman, who all championed women’s rights. King John is also featured signing the Magna Carta.
