The Taylor Wessing Photographic Portrait Prize shortlist has been announced for 2015, with the four shortlisted photographers revealed as Peter Zelewski, Anoush Abrar, Ivor Prickett and Genesis client David Stewart, selected from a total of 4,929 submissions from 2,201 photographers in 70 countries. The photographic prizes, including a first place prize of £12,000, will be announced on November 10 2015.
David Stewart’s image ‘Five Girls 2014’ is his 16th photograph accepted for the competition and mirrors an image taken of his daughter and her friends seven years ago, when they were taking their GCSE’s, which was exhibited in the Taylor Wessing Photographic Portrait Prize exhibition in 2008.
Speaking to us earlier this year, David commented:
“I’ve been entering the Photographic Portrait Prize at The National Portrait Gallery since 1996 and so far, I’ve had 15 photographs accepted. The more recent entries are usually the favourites; I find my current projects more interesting as I am exploring new territory.
As I look through the work I have had accepted over the years, it reflects the subtle changes that I have gone through in my photographic direction over the years. In my case, the main changes have been going from very minimal graphic imagery to more observational work. I find the NPG entry as a useful point in the year where I can see what I have shot through the year and select from the work which images I think may work for the Photographic portrait prize. I tend to mix up different types of portrait within the 6 allowed entries; this year it is a couple of portraits shot in the studio and four shot on location, covering themes such as Identity and Addiction.”
The Taylor Wessing Photographic Portrait Prize exhibition will run at The National Portrait Gallery from 12 November 2015 until 21 February 2016 at The National Portrait Gallery, London.
Good luck to all shortlisted from the team at Genesis Imaging!
