We’re thrilled to a announce Nottingham Trent University student Jack Pickerill as this years Genesis Imaging and Djanogly Art Gallery Bursary Award winner.

Jack won with his series In Passing. The series sees the artist respond to family portraiture and photographs of rural and natural spaces, taken by the artist’s Mother during her own time studying photography. As they communicate back and forth through images 22 years apart, In Passing becomes a project about the passing hours of day to day life and the slow accumulation of years. Photographs taken whilst the artist walked with his Mother as a child sit beside photographs he took whilst exploring alone. Over the time between these moments family members become older, trees are cut down and memories become imprecise. In its complete form as a photobook, In Passing tells a narrative of everyday moments, of meditative time, and of the mortality of life.

As part of the bursary award Jack will exhibit at Djanogly Gallery next year with Genesis supporting the production of the show.
