We are delighted to announce the recipients of the 2023 bursary awards for final-year photography BA students at Nottingham Trent University. At Genesis, we take pride in supporting the next generation of creative practitioners by providing them with valuable opportunities and resources to nurture their artistic pursuits.
After careful consideration, Katharine Ramshaw and Rosie Allen were chosen as the deserving recipients of this year’s Genesis Imaging bursaries by Genesis Creative Director Mark Foxwell. These talented individuals have showcased skill and potential in their photographic work. In recognition of their achievements, Katharine and Rosie will each receive a £500 production bursary, which grants them access to a wide range of photographic printing, mounting, and finishing services Genesis Imaging provides.
An additional bursary of £1000 worth of production services will be awarded based on the university showcase exhibitions, specifically for an exhibition one year from now.
We wholeheartedly congratulate Katharine Ramshaw and Rosie Allen on their well-deserved bursary awards. Their talent and dedication have impressed us greatly, and we have the utmost confidence in their artistic futures.

My practice centres around how the landscape and the body work in tandem, exploring how these themes intrinsically combine to provide moments of movement and energy. Looking at ambiguity and primitivism, my work aims to seek safety in space and push the boundaries of the female form and queer bodies. My most recent body of work won the Genesis Portfolio Award 2023, and my portfolio was shortlisted for the Nottingham Art Society Award 2022. After graduating, I will continue my practice on the MFA at Nottingham Trent University; as well as work alongside young creatives in the art collective I am involved in.

I am currently working with the landscape, creating ancient yet timeless landscapes through photographing Mam Tor in the Peak District. My project, ‘Shadow Lands’ encapsulates the feeling of a timeless yet ancient landscape, based on the idea of creating a landscape that is not of this time. It has been a journey of creative discovery, starting out initially with a very different idea looking into abstraction and then bringing in the landscape, and working my way through my own ideas through research, photographing and experimentation eventually resulting in my current project.
