It has become customary that we close the year by looking at our highlights, the exhibitions and events we’ve supported, and the clients we’ve worked with (and their exhibitions). For 2022, we celebrate the following (in no particular order)…

Our clients

We’ve had the immense privilege to work on such a wide range of client work – big and small – and it has been a joy to see your visions realised through the production of your work. We have been very grateful, once again, to have received unwavering support through the difficulties of the last few years – and for that, we thank you! Here’s to a successful 2023 for our clients – past, present and future.

p.s, you can see a selection of our client’s works here

Celebrating 25 Years of Genesis Imaging!

In 2022 we reached a milestone of 25 years in business! There have been some (significant) changes in the business (did you know, we started as a film laboratory?), and the Genesis you see today may have evolved over the years, but the core belief of putting clients first has remained the same throughout.

Thank you to all of our clients for helping us reach this significant milestone – we couldn’t have done it without you. Here’s to the next 25 years!

Picture Editors Guild Awards – Returns for 2022

After a short hiatus, the Picture Editors Guild returned in 2022, with a new public voting system, and we were once again proud to support the awards as a sponsor of the Regional Photographer of the Year category. Congratulations to all shortlisted commended – and the winners, too!

Touring to IWM North (14 October 2022 – 1 January 2023) and IWM London (3 February – 7 May 2023), Ukraine: Photographs from the Frontline present seventeen photographs from internationally renowned photojournalist Anastasia Taylor-Lind. Made during her time in Ukraine between 2014 and June 2022, these powerful works – displayed publicly in a UK exhibition for the first time – document the devastating reality of living amidst conflict. Genesis are proud to have produced Anastasia’s work as Giclée Fine Art prints with Dibond mounting for this timely and important exhibition.

RPA Print Sale for Ukraine

Back in April of this year, we supported the RPS in raising funds to support the people of Ukraine. The sale was in conjunction with the ‘Approaching Photography Group’, ‘PhotographyWorks’ and Fellows and Honorary Fellows, with proceeds being donated for humanitarian aid in Ukraine through the Disasters Emergency Committee (DEC).

We were proud to have supported the sale.

David Yarrow: Changing Lanes at Maddox Gallery, Westbourne Grove

David Yarrow kickstarted our 2022 with the remainder of his Changing Lanes exhibition at Maddox Gallery, Westbourne Grove (which ran until early Jan 2022 – the perfect start to the new year).

The exhibition was an anthology of the wild west and a homage to the very best in dramatic cinema. Acting as a metaphor for David Yarrow’s evolution as a contemporary artist, ‘Changing Lanes’ marked a shift in focus from the art of capturing the natural world to the power of visual storytelling. With all featured images of the wild punctuated by the narrative of the mythical cowboy or the final frontier, David Yarrow’s latest work plays with cultural iconography, transcending borders and transporting viewers beyond to a world where sublime natural beauty, history and cinematic drama collide.

Postgraduate Award 2022

2022 marked the fourth edition of our Postgraduate Bursary Award, which saw Nicholas Holt awarded the bursary prize with Chris Lewtas announced as our Commended Entry. The award is our way of encouraging the next generation of arts practitioners who further their studies through a postgraduate degree in photography or art-related disciplines. From years of experience working with students, we’re only too aware of the financial pressures of producing final work. And of our responsibility to help foster new talent as leaders in production for the creative industries.

The award is the full production of one individual’s degree show using our range of services (up to £2000). Alongside this, we offer 12 months of mentoring and support, promotion via our newsletter and social media channels, and invites to industry events and exhibitions.

Dogs (Always Dogs)

We love our canine visitors, and they deserve a special mention in our highlights of the year.

Pictured here is little Freya, who came in with her human Harry Skeggs, and aside from sitting pretty, she gave the place a good sniff and enjoyed lots of fuss from the team (and who can blame us with a face like that!)

Trish Morrisey, Autofictions at Serlachius Museums, Finland

Earlier this year, we were thrilled to work with Trish Morrissey to produce her work for the first major survey of her work at the Serlachius Museums, Finland, which runs until 8 January 2023. This extensive exhibition combines photographs and films from over twenty years of the artist’s practice. It premieres a new body of work, including her most ambitious film installation, made especially for Serlachius Museums.

The AOP Photography Awards 2021-22 marked an incredible 37 years – quite the feat! We were proud to have supported the awards, which were an exciting opportunity for AOP Accredited Photographer and Assisting Photographer Members to exhibit their creative work across several categories; Lifestyle, Portrait, Documentary, Environment, Still Life + Object, Food + Drink, Fashion + Beauty, Sport and Project.

The long-awaited Live Showcase Event took place on April 20th 2022, followed by an announcement of the Gold and Silver winners.

‘No Place is An Island’ Photo50, curated by Rodrigo Orrantia, at London Art Fair

Genesis was delighted to once again support Photo50 at London Art Fair, an annual exhibition of contemporary photography which provides a critical forum for examining some of the most distinctive elements of current photographic practice. The 2022 edition of the fair was curated by Rodrigo Orrantia supported by our Exhibition Printing and Installation Services.

No Place is An Island presents works by British and UK-based artists responding to the idea of an island. Echoing John Donne’s famous book No Man is an Island, the exhibition explored what it means to be an island and its possibilities for the future. The exhibition’s title also alludes to the idea that contemporary photography is not an island or an isolated medium. The selected artists will showcase photography as part of a broader practice, pushing and redefining its boundaries through sculpture, performance, moving images and sound.

Student Bursaries with Nottingham Trent University

Reuben Frank Woods and Asher Gough were the two students selected for the £500 production bursary awards for 2022. Lucy Collins was selected as the recipient of the £1000 production bursary in conjunction with Lakeside Arts, chosen during the exhibition at Freerange Photography Week One show at London’s Truman Brewery. Lucy will receive mentorship and a £1000 production bursary for an exhibition in 2023 at Djanogly Art Gallery at Lakeside Arts in Nottingham.
