It has become customary that we close the year by looking at our highlights, the exhibitions and events we’ve supported, and the clients we’ve worked with (and their exhibitions). For 2023, we celebrate the following (in no particular order)…

The Centre for British Photography

Stella Harford, Innocuous

This year, we continued to partner with the Centre of British Photography, working on Arpita Shah’s exhibition ‘Modern Muse’, providing photographic printing for Grace Lau’s ‘Portraits In a Chinese Studio’ and supporting their open call for young photographers.

This fantastic opportunity offered six young photographers the chance to have their work exhibited at the Centre for British Photography’s high-profile central London location and online, based around the theme of ‘What does community mean to you?’.

In September, it was announced that the six winners were Lucas Cannon, Soren Froome-Lewis, Zoë Green, Stella Harford, George Sharp and Jake Wall. Genesis was proud to sponsor printing costs for this fantastic opportunity.

Installation view Trish Morrissey: Autofictions – Twenty Years of Photography and Film at Impressions Gallery, Bradford 14 July to 14 October 2023. Installation pictures by Daniella Gott and Trish Morrissey

July saw Trish Morrissey’s exhibition, Autofictions – Twenty Years of Photography and Film, open at Bradford’s Impressions Gallery, which we produced Lambda Digital C-type Prints for. Having previously been exhibited at Serlachius Museum Gustaf in Finland, this marked the first major UK survey of her work. The exhibition combined photographs and films from over twenty years of the artist’s practice and was the UK premiere of several bodies of work, including Morrissey’s new film Eupnea (2023).

38th AOP Photography Awards 2023

Genesis CEO Ken Sethi with Gold winner Julia Fullerton-Batten

Genesis was honoured to support the highly anticipated Association of Photographers (AOP) Awards in 2023, now in its 38th year, continuing our commitment to celebrating excellence in photography.

As a leading provider of professional photographic services, Genesis Imaging recognises the importance of supporting emerging talents and established photographers alike, which is why we continue to support The AOP awards.

As well as being showcase sponsors, we were honoured to sponsor the ‘Project’ category.

This category focuses on long-term photographic projects on a singular subject that portrays a narrative, illustrated in a series of 10-20 images or short-form film.

Congratulations to the Gold winner, Julia Fullerton-Batten and Silver winner, Zoë Norfolk!

Yan Wang Preston: Field Studies – Land Body Botany

Field Studies – Land Body Botany installation view

In September, we produced Fabric Wapped Lightboxes and Duratrans prints for photographer, Dr Yan Wang Preston, music composer Prof Monty Adkins and guest artist Carrie Williams’ beautiful exhibition Field Studies – Land Body Botany as part of Cultures of Sound, the School of Arts & Humanities at the University of Huddersfield.

The exhibition paid tender attention to the so-called non-native invasive Rhododendron Ponticum within one of its many ‘infested’ landscapes. Luminous and exquisite works in a variety of media were made between 2020 and 2023, shaped by how the COVID-19 crisis altered our relationships with the landscapes, flora and fauna that surround us.

BIGKID Foundation

This year we had the pleasure of working with BIGKID Foundation, touring them around our facilities and giving them the low down on everything print, framing and photography!

BIGKID’s mission is to end youth violence. Through their community engagement, mentoring, and leadership programmes, they equip young people to take control of their lives, find, develop, and act on their own potential.

We also worked with longstanding Genesis client Aneesa Dawoojee, producing Direct to Media Prints on Dibond for her portraits of the faces of BIGKID displayed at Goldman Sachs’ offices; celebrating 15 years of community support in and around Brixton.

Travel Photographer of the Year 2023

Travel Photographer of the Year (TPOTY) at The Royal Photographic Society

This year we announced our continued sponsorship of the prestigious Travel Photographer of the Year (TPOTY) Awards – now in its 21st year.

We are pleased to offer a 50% discount on our Lambda C-type prints for each photographer entering the competition as well as 24″ Giclée print of a selected image for each of the winners from the  Landscape & Environment, Nature, Wildlife & Conservation, People & Cultures and Visual Stories categories. Winners will be announced in January 2024 – keep your eyes peeled!

We were also honoured to have worked on TPOTY’s exhibition at The Royal Photographic Society, Bristol as part of World Photography in Focus, producing  Direct to Media UV Printing on Foamex.

Chloe Dewe Mathews featured in RE/SISTERS: A Lens on Gender and Ecology at the Barbican. Installation photographs by Max Colson.

Genesis was delighted to have worked with Chloe Dewe Mathews, producing C-type Prints for her work featured in the Barbican’s RE/SISTERS: A Lens on Gender and Ecology exhibition.

The exhibition explores the relationship between gender and ecology, highlighting the systemic links between the oppression of women and the degradation of the planet.

Featuring around 50 international women and gender non-conforming artists, RE/SISTERS is a new exhibition featuring work from emerging and established artists across photography and film.

The exhibition is currently on show until Sunday, 14th January 2024 – be sure to check it out if you haven’t already!
